CENTENNIAL
Celebrating
100 Years of Service
As Rotary in Rotorua approaches its centennial milestone, we reflect on nearly a century of community leadership, service and connection. From supporting generations of Rotorua residents to delivering projects that continue to shape our region, our story is one of people coming together to create change.

We are immensely proud of our history and our long-standing contribution to the development of the Rotorua district. Chartered in 1927, just five years after the establishment of the Rotorua Borough Council, our organisation has grown alongside the community we serve. Over the decades, we have shared not only a common purpose but also many of the same founding leaders who helped shape Rotorua’s future.
Throughout our history, we have made a significant contribution to the community through fundraising, volunteer service, and civic leadership.
Some of our most notable achievements include:
- Helping save the iconic Rotorua Bath House from demolition and supporting its expansion to include an Art Museum, with the completion of both the South and North Wings. This preserved an important piece of Rotorua’s heritage while protecting and celebrating the region’s cultural history.
- Leading the fundraising campaign to build the Rotorua Sportsdrome in 1964, creating a lasting facility that has supported sport, recreation, and youth development for generations.
- Raising funds that enabled the completion of the Rotorua Aquatic Centre in 1975, providing a vital community resource that has promoted swimming, water safety, and healthy lifestyles for thousands of residents.
- Building a track alongside the Ngongotaha Stream to rejuvenate birdlife and for locals to enjoy.
- Supporting youth development through many activities, such as the Rotary Rotorua District High Schools speech competition, which has been running for over sixty years.
Our journey, however, continues as we have more projects planned. Come along and be part of our projects.
Soon we shall celebrate our centennial, so watch this space.
