Dictionaries in schools

Building Confidence Through Literacy

Receiving your very own book is something many children never forget.

For decades, Rotary Rotorua has distributed age-appropriate dictionaries to schools across the Rotorua region, helping young learners build literacy skills and confidence.

Presented to Year 4, Year 5 and senior students these dictionaries provide far more than definitions. They support vocabulary development, improve spelling, encourage independent learning and inspire curiosity through engaging illustrations and easy to understand content.

For many tamariki, it is one of the first books they can truly call their own.

This simple project continues to make a lasting difference through the power of education.
