Learning to drive is about more than passing a licence test. It’s about developing the skills and confidence to make good decisions on the road.
The Driver Directions programme is a free, one-day defensive driving course for young drivers aged 16 to 24, held during the school holidays at the Rotorua Kart Sport track at Off Road NZ in Mamaku.
Participants work through a series of practical driving exercises with experienced driving coaches and New Zealand Police, developing skills including:
- Crash avoidance
- Hazard awareness
- Parallel parking
- Vehicle control and safe driving techniques
The programme is open to young people who hold a Learner, Restricted or Full Driver Licence.
The Rotary Club of Rotorua is proud to support Driver Directions alongside Rotorua Lakes Council, New Zealand Police and the Rotorua Kart Sport Development Trust. Our members volunteer during each training day, helping deliver a programme that builds confidence, encourages safer driving habits and contributes to making Rotorua’s roads safer for everyone.
By investing in young drivers today, we’re helping create safer journeys for our whole community tomorrow.
