Supporting young people has always been one of the Rotary Club of Rotorua’s highest priorities.
Our youth programmes focus on building confidence, leadership skills, resilience and creating opportunities for young people to thrive.
School Speech Competition
Since the 1960s the Rotary Club of Rotorua has proudly hosted an annual speech competition for senior secondary students.
Public speaking develops confidence, communication skills and critical thinking. Standing in front of an audience can be daunting, but it is also one of the most valuable skills young people can develop.
Rotary Youth Programme of Enrichment (RYPEN)
RYPEN supports Year 10 students nominated by local schools.
Through leadership activities, workshops and outdoor challenges, students develop confidence and discover new strengths.
Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)
RYLA supports young adults aged 21 to 30 through an immersive leadership programme that develops teamwork, communication and personal growth.
School Leaders Programme
Each year we invite student leaders from Rotorua secondary schools to share their goals and aspirations while connecting with fellow student leaders across the region.
Harold Holmes Scholarship Award
The Harold Holmes Scholarship Awardwas set up by long time Rotarian, Harold in 1991 with the aim of helping Rotorua teenagers with their university costs. Each year nominations are invited from high schools in the Rotorua District. The Rotary Club of Rotorua assists in the selection of the recipient and presents the award.
Supporting youth means investing in Rotorua District’s future.
