Creating better community spaces creates stronger communities.
Rotary Club of Rotorua maintains and cares for a section of the Ngongotahā Stream Track near Eliot Park, helping transform an overgrown area into a welcoming community space.
Members regularly undertake planting, maintenance and environmental improvements to encourage biodiversity and make the track more enjoyable for residents and visitors.
The project delivers multiple benefits:
- Improved environmental outcomes
- Enhanced community wellbeing
- Increased birdlife and biodiversity
- Stronger neighbourhood pride
Working bees are also an opportunity for fellowship, conversation and connecting with local residents who use the track regularly.
What started as maintenance work has become a place that the community increasingly takes ownership of, adding decorations and helping care for the space themselves.
